What makes a good tradie website?

You're flat out on the tools, and the website is the job that never gets done. Maybe you've had a quote from a web designer that came with jargon, a long wait and a price that made you close the tab. So the site stays as an old Facebook page and a number on the ute. Here is the standard worth holding any site to: it should work like an answer sheet, not a brochure. Picture someone with a leaking tap or a dead power point, searching on their phone. They arrive with four or five questions, and the site either answers them in seconds or they move on to the next tradie. That is the whole job of tradie website design: get the calls and quote requests coming in while you're busy on a roof or under a house. The rest of this post covers what that takes, what it should cost and how fast it should happen.

What should people see before they scroll?

Three things: what trade you are, where you work, and how to call you. All of it should be clear before anyone scrolls, with a tappable phone number on every page. Postcode-level clarity beats a clever headline. "Electrician in the Sutherland Shire" does more work than "Powering Your Tomorrow", because someone with a dead power point isn't hunting for poetry. They want to know you cover their suburb. If a visitor has to scroll, click or guess to find those three things, plenty of them won't bother.

Why does one page per service work better?

Because people search for the specific job, not the trade. Someone with a cold shower types "hot water system replacement", not "plumber", so the page they land on should speak to that exact problem.

A single long "our services" list can't do that. Give each major service its own page and you can say what the job involves, which areas you cover and how to call, without burying it under everything else you do.

It also helps the visitor, who gets an answer in seconds instead of hunting through a list. That is what turns a search into a phone call.

What does custom actually look like on a real trade site?

The test we use on every trade site is simple. The question isn't whether it looks professional. It's how many taps sit between a visitor and your phone number. On the Better Electrical Co build, a licensed electrician working across Sydney and the Sutherland Shire, the tap-to-call number sits at the top of every page and repeats through the layout. Most visitors arrive with a job in mind and one question: can I get someone good, soon? Services are split the way customers think, so someone with a dead power point and someone asking about EV charging each land on a page that fits their job. This is what we mean by custom-designed: built around your trade and your customers, not a template with your logo dropped in. It's mobile-first, because most people searching for a tradie are on their phone, and it's built and hosted on fast, secure, modern infrastructure.

Should you build it yourself or hire a designer?

For most trades, hire a designer. One job pays for a year of website, so a site that brings in even one extra customer a month covers its cost many times over.

DIY builders hand you empty boxes and leave the words to you. That is how you end up with "Welcome to our website" instead of what you do, where, and why someone should call you. A designer writes it for you, builds something that doesn't look like a template, and is a human you can ring when something needs changing.

That is what our $50/month trade sites are: custom-designed, built and hosted for you, live in about a week. We handle the website so you can run the business.

We're a good fit for sole traders and small trade businesses wanting a clear, professional site that helps them get found. We're not the right fit if you need an online store, user accounts, payment systems or an app, or if you're after a custom package that needs a lot of negotiating.
